Cal football recruiting: Boss Tagaloa puts Bears in top 12

Another local prospect

This is old news, but we were busy with basketball recruiting the last month, so let's get you caught up with some football recruiting news.

With Camilo Eifler putting the Bears in his top six, Cal is in the mix for at least two local recruits. It's quite possible that the best local Bay Area prospect available is Boss Tagaloa (distant relation to Freddie). The 6-3, 295 pound lineman from Concord (Ca.) De La Salle could be an imposing defensive tackle or grow into a steady offensive lineman depending on which side of the ball he wants to be on.

Cal is one of the dozen schools that made his final cut list. You have a lot of heavy hitters joining the Bears. There's the Alabama Crimson Tide, with Tosh Lupoi trying to continue to make East Bay incursions (already securing the early commitment of 2017 running back Najee Harris). The Michigan Wolverines are right there. Both Arizona schools are on the list. You have some interesting SEC schools like Missouri, Ole Miss and Tennessee. And there are other Pac-12 programs like Oregon State, UCLA and Washington. Notably missing are the powerhouses like Oregon, USC and Stanford.

I cannot stress how badly Cal needs an elite defensive line prospect. The resurgence of the Cal defense begins with the Bears being able to plug up holes on the interior. There won't be a better one in this class than Tagaloa, and he could immediately be sold on the prospect of staying at home and being a four year starter.

Can Cal break back into that De La Salle pipeline?
