Something, something about S. Thompson and a Cal recruiting decommit. Our streak is two!
The decommitment of Shurod Thompson is a bit of a blow to Cal's early recruiting momentum. He committed to Cal in April and seemed really enthusiastic about it, but it apparently didn't work out. The Bears had a top 25 class early on and looked to be poised to have some solid momentum going into the summer cycle. Cal will probably fall back a bit in that space with Thompson out. More critically they are probably in need of another safety commit--with Thompson and Dismuke they were set to have a really strong secondary class.
Still, the Bears have done nicely finding defensive back recruits. Marquel Dismuke remains the crown jewel of our class and is a contender to start the moment he arrives on campus, and Traveon Beck looks like an extremely solid cornerback. Cal is far from done on the secondary front, although it does hurt to lose out on two local Pittsburg talents like Thompson and Jordan Parker to rival schools.
With Parker committed to UCLA, I'd expect Thompson to explore the Bruins or check out other schools in the Pac-12 like Oregon, USC and Arizona State. I would not expect him to recommit to Cal.
