"I lost track of time. I didn't prepare anything because I wanted to speak from the heart," he said. The reception included a contingent of Cal students, hoping they'd have reason to celebrate. "I didn't realize there would be that many actual students from Cal here. It was crazy.
"I was just so excited," he said. "I lost track of time. I wanted to just get it out and speak from the heart. ... Ultimately, Cal was the place I felt most comfortable. It felt like family."
"I was happy to bring it right here to her restaurant, where people can see her craft. It's not only about my craft; it's about her craft. She gets down in the kitchen," said her son.
Ivan is an exceptional player, but coaches say he’s also a humble person. "Never talked back, never disrespectful, incredible young man," said Bishop O’Dowd coach Lou Richie.
