Cal football recruiting commit: Jake Curhan, Redwood offensive tackle

Go Bears!

Ed Szczepanski-USA TODAY Sports

What better way to spend your Friday night than following recruiting news for Cal football?

Offensive line is a priority for the California Golden Bears this class. I imagine that Cal will take at least four and perhaps up to five or six linemen this class as they prepare for the majority of their starting line depth chart to graduate by the end of the 2016 season.  They have landed their second offensive line commitment of the class in Redwood High's Jake Curhan out of Larkspur.

Curhan put a huge emphasis on education, based on what he had to say about his visit to Cal back in March ($). Berkeley appears to have been a natural fit.

Curhan holds offers from over a dozen schoolsincluding Arizona State, Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Oregon State, San Diego State, San Jose State, Vanderbilt and Washington Statechoosing the Golden Bears with the following message:

It makes sense that academics factored into Curhan's decision as he has an unweighted GPA of 3.86.

Cal now has two offensive tackle commits from this class in Daniel Juarez and Curhan.

Here are the rankings.

  • Rivals: Three stars (5.6), 48th best offensive tackle, 53rd best recruit in California
  • 247Sports: Three stars (84), 86th best offensive tackle, 92nd best California recruit
  • Scout: Three stars, 61st best offensive tackle, 10th best California offensive tackle

Here are Curhan's highlights from his junior season.

Welcome to Cal Jake! GO BEARS!
