Golden Nuggets: Chris Harper Inks FA Contract With Pats

The Cal Football star receiver joins the champions rookie camp this weekend.

The No. 23 California Golden Bears (31-16, 15-8 Pac-12) swept a doubleheader on Saturday with the Campbell Fighting Camels (29-22, 10-11 Big South) on Saturday to take two of three in Buies Creek, North Carolina.

Softball

After two nail-biting victories on Thursday and Friday, No. 19 Cal routed Stanford with an 11-2 five-inning win on Senior Day to conclude the regular season with a sweep over their rivals.

Track & Field

The California Golden Bears track and field team sent a contingent of 23 athletes Saturday to the Sacramento Open and six athletes to San Francisco for the USF West Coast Last Chance Meet.

Men's Tennis

California endured two rain delays and a change of venue before eliminating Texas A&M-CC from the NCAA Championship with a 4-0 first-round victory over the Islanders on Friday.

For the second consecutive day, California shut out a team of Bulldogs, 4-0, at the Hellman Tennis Complex, but this time, the win punched the Golden Bears’ tickets to Waco, Texas, where they will play in their ninth straight NCAA Championship round of 16.

Football

The defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots officially announced Friday that former Cal wide receiver Chris Harper has signed a free agent contract with the NFL team. Harper will take part in the team’s rookie mini-camp this Friday-Sunday and is the first former Cal player to sign an undrafted rookie free agent contract following the conclusion of the 2015 NFL Draft.
