California Golden Bears men's basketball is suddenly becoming a hot commodity. How else can you explain an assistant coach of a former national title team heading out to the West Coast?
A former assistant at New Mexico and Pepperdine, Jones played professional basketball overseas for six years. He was also a travel team manager for Nike's Elite Youth Basketball program. He played his college ball at Loyola Marymount.
Jones has been with Louisville for several years, and has experienced nothing but success with Rick Pitino and company. The Cardinals have won a national championship, two conference championships, gone to two Final Fours, and also made it to the Elite 8 (2015) and Sweet 16 (2014) in the years they didn't get that far.
It should also be noted that Jones has some connections with some big Cal basketball recruiting targets, including 2016 (perhaps 2015) point guard Derryck Thornton for one (who says he has a great relationship with Jones). And Jones recruited Louisville freshman guard Shaqquan Arron, who recently transferred from the Cardinals and is currently looking at plenty of West Coast destinations.
Also, Wyking is a great thespian of our times. Check out his intimidation game when it comes to the McDonald's Snack Wrap. (HT Card Chronicle)
