More good news on the recruiting front! With Davon Dillard committing and Ivan Rabb and Caleb Swanigan deliberating, a big focus is on point guard, and we might have a target down the line. 2016 Henderson (Nv.) Findlay Prep point guard Derryck Thornton is a top ten national prospect considering a bunch of powerhouse programs. Duke. Kentucky. Louisville. Michigan. Cal. Miami.
Cal!
The Bears have entered the fray indeed. A visit is coming this offseason. More from ZagsBlog:
"We just went to Duke, we’re going to go to Cal-Berkeley, we’re going to go to Miami and we’re going to go to Louisville March 7," Tank Thornton said. "Miami and Cal will be after the season, like in April."
There is a lot of question as to which year he'll play. Right now he's part of the 2016 class, but there's a chance he could consider reclassifying to 2015 (I'm not sure if Cal is one of those programs that is recruiting him for reclassification). The Sporting News covers that angle.
"I'm leaning a little bit toward staying in high school, but I'm not 100 percent sure yet. I have thought about it a little bit, and there are pros and cons to both. I'm kind of in the middle. It could go either way," He told Sporting News. Thornton went on to say he was about 70% sure he'd be staying in school for another season.
Now, this will not be an easy pull. A lot of national powers want him, and Thornton probably favors them. But Cal is in the mix, which is good stuff.
Rob will have a scouting report on Thornton soon!
