Cal athletic director finalists reportedly Tom Bowen of Memphis & interim AD Mike Williams

That's the report at least.

Who knows how legitimate this report is, but the Memphis Commercial Appeal is reporting that Memphis athletic director Tom Bowen and Cal interim athletic director Mike Williams are the two finalists for the California Golden Bears athletic director position. At the moment, Bowen is denying these reports.

“I can tell you, on the record, that I never talk about personnel (decisions) or employees.” Bowen said Wednesday before the University of Memphis baseball game against Arkansas at AutoZone Park. “I’m happy at Memphis. This is where I am, this is where I want to be. We’re doing great work and I’m excited about what we’re doing.

“Again, I’m not going to comment about all this (Cal AD) talk, noise, social media (reports). I’m very, very pleased and happy and love being the athletic director at the University of Memphis. That’s been my statement all along and this continues to come up.”

By now you probably know all you need to know about Michael Williams. He's been handling interim responsibilities the past year, and has put at least a friendly face on the position. Many of the recent scheduling announcements (Auburn, TCU, North Carolina, Ole Miss) have come under his short watch.

Then there's Bowen. Bowen does have some experience with Cal and satisfies some of the credentials you could hope for. The former San Jose State A.D. did make a solid hire in Mike MacIntyre and did a good job turning around their academic issues. Memphis seems to be doing okay in both football and basketball. He was a fundraiser at Cal from 2000 to 2002, which aren't exactly the greatest years in Cal athletics history.

What do you guys think? Would you like either Williams or Bowen at the helm? Let us know in the comments.
