The California Golden Bears seemed to be all set at quarterback with the early commitment of Los Angeles (Ca.) Hamilton dual-threat signal caller Armani Rogers (click here for official scouting report). Rogers has all the physical tools to really shine in the Bear Raid and could be one of the most athletic quarterbacks the Golden Bears have ever recruited.
However, the Bears might not be done. Cal is still apparently looking at other quarterbacks, and could very well try and land two. Jared Goff could be gone in a year, so the Bears want as open a competition as they can get.
Here are the targets Cal offered that are still uncommitted
Gardena (Ca.) Junipero Serra quarterback Khalil Tate
Major offers: Arizona, Florida State, Nebraska, Texas A&M, UCLA, USC, Utah, Washington State
Tate is a spectacular athlete. He's dynamite in space and has a cannon of an arm. Tate is probably out of Cal's reach, but it'd be an amazing tag-team combo with Rogers.
Rancho Santa Margarita (Ca.) Tesoro quarterback Devon Modster
Major offers: Arizona, ASU, Boise State, Kansas, UCLA, Utah, Washington State
Modster has solid athletic measureables and proves to be able to scramble in traffic, but most importantly knows how to operate in shotgun, four to five wide receiver sets. Modster would be a perfect fit in an offense with great wide receviers, and that fast arm is all set to go.
Glendora (Ca.) quarterback Matt Fink
Major offers: Boise State, Boston College, Colorado, Notre Dame, Oregon State, UCLA, Utah, Washington, Washington State
Fink was offered by Cal a few weeks after the commitment by Rogers to Cal, making you think that the Bears would be open to the possibility of taking two quarterbacks.
Fink doesn't have the stars, but his tape really pops up. Fink stands tall in the pocket, has good vision, and has the jets to turn it up in the open field. Fink also lands in that realm of awesome athlete that would give the Bears even more talent to work with in their offense.
What do you think about Cal potentially trying to get a second quarterback?
