After dropping the opening game 9-2, the Bears bounced back with a 7-4 victory in game 2 of the series. In game 1 of the series, the Wildcats got to Cal starter Katie Sutherland-Finch early. A 5 run outburst in the 3rd inning gave the Wildcats an insurmountable 8-0 lead en route to a 9-2 win.
Game 2 saw the Bears pitching having issue in the 3rd inning again (2nd time through the lineup). Starter Nisa Ontiveros was knocked out in the 3rd inning with the Bears trailing 4-2. Reliever Stephanie Trzcinski was able to hold the Wildcats in check for the rest of the game, however. Senior 3B Cheyenne Cordes hit a go-ahead 2 run homer for the Bears and had a great 3 for 4 day with 4 RBI's to spark the come-from-behind win and secure those super sweet insurance runs.
Coach Diane Ninemire notched 1200th win on Saturday. She, already the Cal coach with the most victories in any sports, became the 4th active Division 1 coach to reach this mark. What makes her achievement particularly special is that Coach Ninemire is the only coach to reach this plateau with 1200 wins at the same program.
