This came out of nowhere.
Los Angeles Salesian linebacker Kyahva Tezino decommitted from Washington State yesterday, and now has the California Golden Bears in his final four along with the Kansas Jayhawks, Boise State Broncos, and San Diego State Aztecs. It's nice that Cal is in the mix for more four-star talent this season, but we honestly had no inkling of this a week ago.
I'm just going to say this: I'd be shocked if Tezino picks Cal tomorrow. Cal did not actively make linebackers a priority this season, and I'm not even sure if Tezino has visited Berkeley yet. Their depth is strong there and the Bears don't need anyone this season. Only Lonny Powell ended up committing, and he's going to start out his Cal career at running back. This feels very much like a hat on the table situation, where we're just there to add a power program to the festitvities.
San Diego State got the final visit, so I'd guess they're the favorite. But hey, who knows! Maybe Tezino will surprise us again.
