Cal football recruiting commit: Marquel Dismuke, four star Calabasas safety

Hey everyone. We're making recruiting waves early in 2016.

Calabasas (Ca.) safety Marquel Dismuke has become the second commitment of the 2016 recruiting class, joining quarterback Armani Rogers.  In probably Cal's biggest position of need, the Bears have found a star player at a must-need position. This is a huge wow, and a big statement for this recruiting class.

Dismuke has early offers from Arizona State, Michigan, Mississippi State, San Diego State, Utah, and Washington State, but it's Cal that gets the call.  Michigan probably will keep tabs on Dismuke and USC or UCLA could always try and apply local pressure, but I have a good feeling that we should hold onto him. Greg Burns has proven his recruiting chops for years.

It sounds like he's been a Cal fan for awhile, so I'm not too worried here.

Here are the Hudl highlights.  Dismuke already looks like a natural hitter, and his 6'2, 170-180 pound frame lends itself well to the safety position.

Here are the rankings.

  • Rivals: Four stars (5.8), 12th best safety, 156th on the Rivals 250, 27th best recruit in California
  • ESPN: Four stars (83), 4th best safety, 82nd in the ESPN300 , 11th best recruit in California
  • Scout: Four stars, 11th best safety, 190th national recruit
  • 247Sports: Three stars (88), 22nd best safety, 42nd best recruit in California

Welcome to Cal, Marquel! GO BEARS!
