Sonny Dykes was not present for Sunday's meeting with the press regarding Cal's Armed Forces Bowl announcement (I believe the official word is he was flying to official college football award shows and functions that most coaches attend this week), but his players were available via teleconference to talk with the media.

The situation remains unchanged on the contract extension front. Athletic director Mike Williams stated there is no timetable for the Dykes extension at this moment.

The official quote: "We are still in the process of negotiating an extension with Coach Dykes. He is our head coach."

Quotes from the players via Jeff Faraudo:

  • Jared Goff said that Sonny Dykes was "a coach you want to win for", but declined to state what the coach said to his team at the football banquet and at regular practice last week. "That's between us and him."
  • Stefan McClure: "He’s excited to be here, excited to be coaching us in this bowl game, to send these seniors out with a win and looking forward to the future."
  • Jordan Rigsbee on what the team talked about: "That's something that is kind of in house for our team. I'm not going to talk about it today."

All the players stated that their focus is on Air Force. Goff does know that they run the triple option, but that's about it!

Cal will be the away team and will wear their away uniforms, just like they did in 2007.
