Some quick notes from the Armed Forces Bowl practices. Here are your Cal vs. Air Force injury updates:

  • Defensive end Puka Lopa is not likely to play in the Armed Forces Bowl
  • Wide receiver Kenny Lawler is expected to play.
  • Running back Daniel Lasco is uncertain. It's probably going to be Tre Watson, Vic Enwere, and Khalfani Muhammad as our three man Bear trio in the backfield.

Also, Cal could lose an additional man in the linebacking corps. Cal linebacker Michael Barton has already announced his departure from the program after the Armed Forces Bowl, as he plans to graduate and spend his final year of eligibility elsewhere.

Nathan Broussard technically has an extra year of eligibility himself, but it sounds like Sonny Dykes anticipates him leaving as well.  Jeff Faraudo has the story:

"I don't know if he's made his mind up completely, but I would anticipate that," Dykes said.

Cal players also appear to have moved on from the Sonny contract saga pretty quickly. More from Faraudo.

"Coming into college football I knew it wasn't high school football. It's a business," junior guard Chris Borrayo said. "I was interested in where coach Dykes was going and I'm happy he stayed. But as far as stressing over it, it was coach Dykes' business."

Added Watson: "Of course, we love our coach, but at the end of the day we play for each other. I honestly wasn't worried about it at all. I didn't think he was leaving."
