In the first half, Cal shot better from the field in the first half and yet were down 44-43 going into half time. Richmond shot 50% from the field to Cal's 55%. Richmond's biggest advantage was the fact they attempted 16 free throws where as Cal only got to the foul line 3 times. Richmond also led the rebounding battle by 19-16. Jabari led the way for Cal with 12 points (5-8), 3 rebounds and 2 assists. There were more than enough highlight plays for Cal in the half, but needed a big second half to put this Richmond Spiders squad away.
In the second half, Cal mounted a comeback attempt in the second half but just falls short. The Bears could not close out the game despite leading by 4 points with under 6 minutes to play. Foul trouble for our talented duo of freshman was a huge factor going into the end of the game.
Let's talk about the loss. It's way early in the season, and it was back-back losses with no practice time in-between, but what went wrong?
