Cal has finally broken their silence on the recruiting front with the commitment at a huge position of need. Rockville (Maryland) defensive end Chinedu Udeogu from Georgetown Prep has committed to Cal!
Excited to say that I have officially committed to The University of California-Berkeley! #GoBears pic.twitter.com/9jpP0XWmHd

Udeogu received an offer from Cal a few months ago, and recently took a visit to Berkeley. The Bears made him a high priority at the critical position of defensive end. Udeogu had offers from Rutgers, Army, Dartmouth, Pitt and Yale, and Rutgers figured to be the team to beat for awhile before Cal swooped in and started making their pitch. Good job by the staff to hone in on a top talent who’s a good academic fit with the Bears!
Cal now has four defensive end commits in this class, as Udeogu joins Russell Becker, Tevin Paul and Evan Weaver as Golden Bears who are looking to upgrade our speed on the edge and give us the ability to be strong against both the pass and the run in our 4-3 alignment.
Here are the rankings:
- 247Sports Composite: Three stars, 56th best strong side defensive end, 31st best recruit in Maryland.
- Scout: Three stars, 94th best defensive end
- Rivals: Two stars (5.4)
- ESPN: Two stars (68), 48th best recruit in Maryland, 151st best defensive end
Here are the highlights:
Welcome to Cal Chinedu!
