Pac-12 football standings: Stanford & Utah on championship collision course?

New, comments

Both teams remain unscathed in conference play.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Although it's far from over, there are clear and prohibitive favorites in both the Pac-12 North and South.

Stanford rolled over UCLA for yet another year, winning comfortably 56-35. The Cardinal remain one of the nation's hottest teams, winning every one of their conference games by double digits. The Cardinal are now 4-0 in conference and are running out of stumbling blocks before the Big Game.

Cal remains secure in second place at 2-1 in conference play, but must play catch up with Stanford the rest of the year. Washington State blew out Oregon State early to maintain their slight lead over the Ducks.

Oregon finally course corrected and squeaked out another road win, this one against Washington to widen their streak to 12 games.  Oregon State has been left in the cellar and does look the conference's bottom-dweller this season.

Utah has taken command of the Pac-12 South. They are still undefeated in conference play after closing the deal against Arizona State, while the rest of their Southies have two losses or more. Arizona took care of Colorado and are tied with Arizona State at 2-2 each, but the Wildcats and Sun Devils each have a very difficult closing stretch with no gimme games.

UCLA's Pac-12 South title hopes are probably history (1-2) unless they can go on the road and beat Utah, but they do have a winnable slate coming out and it starts with their matchup with Cal. USC (1-2 as well) has fallen to .500 after dropping their second in a row to Notre Dame, and now they must get ready to do battle with Utah.
