The California Golden Bears are trying to build up some offensive line depth. With Johnny Capra defecting to Utah and Nick Buchanan's status still very much up in the air, Cal needs more players to pair up with Ryan Gibson to ensure we have some offensive line recruiting depth in this class.
Enter Westlake Village (Ca.) center Patrick Mekari, brother of current Cal defensive lineman Tony. Patrick flipped his commitment today from the Utah State Aggies to the California Golden Bears.
I am so happy to announce my commitment to the University of California Berkeley!!! #goldenbears #cal #mekaritakeover pic.twitter.com/U9Qxr4iEU4

Mekari is a big dude and played both center and tackle in high school, and looks like a great under-the-radar verbal in terms of upside and long-range potential. It will be interesting to see where he slots when he gets to college.
More on the commitment from Ryan Gorcey of Bear Territory.
"Coach [Tony] Franklin and coach Brandon Jones came by school this morning, and offered," Mekari said. "I think it was about two hours, three hours, from when they offered to when I committed. I talked to my dad about it, I talked to my family about it, and, at the end of the day, I just felt like it was the right decision for me. The education is second-to-none, and it would set me up best for success."
Here are the rankings.
- Rivals: 2 stars (5.3)
- 247Sports: 2 stars (79), 26th offensive tackle, 198th best California recruit
- Scout: 2 stars
Here are the Hudl highlights. Welcome to Cal Patrick! GO BEARS!
