Sorry for being MIA in my WBB coverage over the past week or so - real life has intruded, and I've been living out of a suitcase for a few days. Cal had a weekend of basketball that can only be described as frustrating. First, Cal played ASU evenly for 30 minutes before collapsing down the stretch. Then the Bears played Arizona waaaaaaaay closer than they should have. It was a weekend of bad shooting, iffy defense, and way too much foul trouble.
The Bears need to pick things up, and the opportunity to do so comes in L.A., starting with USC. The Trojans have been thoroughly mediocre in conference play, beating Oregon, Colorado and Utah while losing to Oregon State and UCLA (twice). Even on the road, this is a team Cal should beat . . . but the Bears will likely fall if they bring an effort like they brought against Arizona.
Your quickie preview? Man, just play better. USC doesn't do anything remarkably well, nor do they do anything remarkably badly. They're an average power conference team, and Cal believes themselves to be much better than the average power conference team. Control the paint, win the turnover battle, draw more fouls - in short, do good basketball things.
