Happy New Year Bears!
San Diego (Ca.) St. Augustine cornerback Frank Buncom IV has arrived at the Semper Fi Bowl, and is one of Cal's biggest targets left on the board. More from Ryan Gorcey of Bear Territory.
“I’ve already been to Notre Dame and Vanderbilt, and since I was forced to cancel my trip to Cal, I’ll be taking a trip to Stanford the weekend of Jan. 16, and then the following weekend, Jan. 23, I’ll be taking a trip to Cal,” Buncom says. “Pretty soon after that, on the 28th, I’ll be making my decision.”
Academics are paramount for Buncom, who hopes to be pre-med wherever he goes, but beyond that, there are a few other factors in his decision.
“At this point, Division I football is Division I football, so I consider that a wash,” Buncom says. “At this point, really, it’s just how I feel, the vibe that I get from campus. What this injury’s told me is that football can be taken away at any point, and if that happens to be the case, God forbid, then I want to make sure that I’m comfortable at that school, and being there four to five years, even if I have to do that without football.”

Duke commit and huge Cal target TJ Rahming has been outstanding at Army bowl practices. Check him running routes at bowl practice.
There were a few wide receivers that merit mention. Van Jefferson had a really good afternoon and caught several balls during the 7on7 period. Deon Cain was really good in the 1on1 period but the quarterbacks weren't able to get him the ball. Rahming though was the most consistent across the board. The Duke commit is a slot body all the way but he catches everything, he's really quick and he has big play ability with the ball in his hands. He's the offensive player that has the East coaches buzzing.
Also at the Semper Fi Bowl, Santa Ana (Ca.) Mater Dei (six feet, 290 pounds) defensive tackle Malik McMorris has been offered by Cal as a preferred walk-on according to the OC Register. Army, Holy Cross, UC Davis, Azusa Pacific and Virginia Union have also offered. He was the SI High School Athlete of the Month, check out his story by clicking here or reading below!
