Memorial Stadium is coming to your TV sets a week earlier than expected. Strawberry Canyon is opening its doors to another event, this one of a more local variety. While Cal prepares thousands of miles away for its season opener against Northwestern in Chicago, De La Salle High is coming to Berkeley to play Jesuit next Friday night.
This is another neat idea. De La Salle is by far the most outstanding program in Bay Area sports; their national record winning streak of 151 games spans from 1992 to 2004, and they have won numerous state and national championships before, during and after that streak.
Additionally, the movie ‘When The Game Stands Tall’ is out in theaters, so this would be a good chance to sell tickets to one of the greatest success stories in high school sports. Check out the trailer of the movie.
Memorial seems to be coming a popular spot for new Bay Area sporting events. Cal recently hosted the Real Madrid vs. Inter Milan matchup (as part of the International Champions Cup).
Also, in case you’re interested in classical music, this option will be available to you during Cal’s upcoming bye week. The Oakland Symphony Ball is on Saturday, September 13th in the luxurious University Club. More information is available here.
Here is the press release from Cal Athletics.
