Cal Track and Field
6 Student-Athletes (junior Kelsey Santisteban, senior Milan Ristic, redshirt senior Hammed Suleman, redshirt sophomore Jonte Grant, redshirt senior Derek White and sophomore Thomas Joyce) and the Men's 4x100 relay team (redshirt junior Dan Davis, redshirt seniors Tom Blocker, Dash Oliver and freshman Khalfani Muhammad...yes, that's the same Khalfani Muhammad who is the likely starting RB for Cal Football) represented Cal at the NCAA Championships last week up in Eugene, Oregon in 8 separate events. The lone female athlete, Kelsey Santisteban is also the only Golden Bears competing in two events.
While the depth of the Bears made the men super lethal in dual meets this season (including the No.1 ranking in the country and a Big Meet victory of Stanfurd), Golden Bears were not really a threat to win any individual events.
Here are the results:
Day 1:
Men
4x100-meter relay – 22. Dan Davis, Tom Blocker, Dash Oliver, Khalfani Muhammad 40.17
The Golden Bears quartet equalled their season best time of 39.91 for the 12th and final qualifying spot in the NCAA Qualifier. That time, set also earlier in the Pac-12 prelim, is the 7th best all time in Cal history. Unable to match their season best time, the Bears finished 8th in their heat and 22nd overall.
Day 2:
Men
1500-meters (semifinals) – 7. Thomas Joyce 3:41.67q
110-meter hurdles (semifinals) – 15. Milan Ristic 13.98
Long Jump – 10. Hammed Suleman 24-1.50 (7.35m)
Women
10000-meters – Kelsey Santisteban DNF
q-qualified
Day 2 saw Thomas Joyce qualified for the 1500-meters final with the 7th best time, which was by a margin of a mere 0.02 second. Hammed Suleman (a red-shirt senior) finished a quarter of an inch away from qualifying for the Long Jump final. Senior transfer Ristic also perform worse than his personal record time at the NCAA qualifying; he finished 5th in his heat and 15th overall.
On the women's side, Santisteban had to pull out with 5 laps remaining. She also ended up pulling out of the 5000-meter race later in the week.
Day 3:
Men
Discus – 17. Derek White 184-7 (56.27m)
Needing to equal his personal record throw of 194-11 (set at the Big Meet) to advanced to the final 9, redshirt-senior White was only able to throw a 184-7 to finish 17th overall.
Day 4:
Men
1500-meters (final) – 11. Thomas Joyce 3:41.08
Triple Jump – 14. Jonte Grant 51-11.75 (15.84m)
Both Golden Bears who competed on the final day of the NCAA Championships set their personal record, despite not placing in the top 3. Redshirt-sophomore Grant was able to set his personal best triple jump on his third and final attempt. Sophomore Joyce dropped more than half a minute from his qualifying time to also set a new personal record and finish 11th overall in the country. Both of these guys will look to set more personal records in future NCAA Championships.
Fall Schedules Announced
A slew of fall schedules were announced for the various Cal Fall Olympic sports:
Cal Volleyball
Coming off another NCAA tournament season, the Golden Bears will face 18 NCAA tournament teams in 2014. They will also have 13 matches televised on the Pac-12 Networks.
After spending part of the early summer on an Europe trip, the Golden Bears will stay close to the west coast for the entire season (not counting the NCAA tournaments, of course). Bears open with tournaments in Colorado Springs, CO and Las Cruces, NM before hosting their own tournament. After one local match against St. Mary's, the Bears will them start the always very tough Pac-12 volleyball season. Like other Pac-12 sports, a true roundtable schedule was only an one season things. Bears will only face the Washington schools once this year - hosting UW and visiting Wazzu.

Cal Men's Water Polo
4 was the clear ranking of the Golden Bears in 2013 (being able to beat everyone other than 'Furd, USC, and UCLA). That is also the number of games that will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks for the Bears in 2014.
After making a Princeton trip few years ago, this year's team will again just stay on the West Coast for the season with Navy making a visit to Berkeley.
