Fri., May 16 Arizona, Evans Diamond, Berkeley, Calif. 4 p.m.
Sat., May 17 Arizona, Evans Diamond, Berkeley, Calif. 4 p.m.
Sun., May 18 Arizona, Evans Diamond, Berkeley, Calif. 3 p.m.
All games will be on KALX and regional (and possibly national) Pac-12 Networks action.
Behind a complete game by sophomore Ryan Mason, the Golden Bears won the rubber game of the USC road series last Sunday to keep their postseason hope alive. Vince Bruno went 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs for the Golden Bears in the Sunday 4-1 victory. On the Saturday game, the Bears easily won 11-4 thanks to two homers hit by Devon Rodriguez.
With just 7 games left on the season (3 at home this weekend against Arizona, 1 on the road midweek at USF, and 3 on the road against a great Oregon team), the Bears need to go 6-1 to have a winning record.
Cal senior Devon Rodriguez is featured on CalBears.com.
Perseverance and loyalty.
No better words in the dictionary can describe the college baseball career of Cal senior first baseman Devon Rodriguez.
During his time in Berkeley, the Golden Bears’ slugger from Newhall has experienced the exhilaration of producing what many consider the greatest clutch hit in the history of Cal baseball. He also suffered a series of injuries that not only could have ended his baseball career, but included one that was potentially life threatening.
Through it all, the love of his team and the Cal program has brought Rodriguez back for his senior season in 2014.
"I finally feel normal," Rodriguez said. "I know people were going to be doubting me entering this season after coming off injuries the past two years. That’s where it’s been fun. Having the opportunity to prove people wrong and have some fun out there. I’m finally healthy and feeling good."
It's a nice read on the story of the man who had the most famous Cal Baseball hit in recent history.
Cal is also again giving out those fabulous Cal mugs this weekend, on the regular season home finale on Sunday.
Cal Men's Golf (in 7th place after Day 1 of NCAA Regional)
Top seed (and 4th ranked) Golden Bears are competing in the NCAA Sugar Grove Regional. Only the top 8 teams advance to the NCAA Championships. After Day 1 (of 3) yesterday, the Bears found themselves in a somewhat unfamiliar place of being 7th.
