As we're getting into the thick of recruiting season, I thought it would be best to see how some of our coaches are fairing in their own recruiting trips around the state, as well as around the rest of the country.
Yesterday was a great start to a great week of #crootin. Looking to build on it today! So much talent in the #Goldenstate. #GOBEARS
— Zach Yenser (@CalCoachYenser) May 6, 2014
"Crootin," that's pretty good. Haven't heard that one before.
No better way to end the day then watching one of the top/most physical offensive line units in the #Goldenstate. #FutureBears #CalOL
— Zach Yenser (@CalCoachYenser) May 6, 2014
Also, if you take a look at this instagram photo, it looks like Coach Yenser left the country (presumably to Canada) to pursue a recruit. Pretty impressive stuff, I must admit.
Meanwhile, Coach Likens has been doing most of his work in the Inland Empire.
The airline that just delayed my flight has no idea how much I want to see my son. On a more +note, very productive week in the IE! #GoBears

Due to NCAA rules I cannot retweet or favorite tweets by prospective student athletes. But I am retweeting on the inside this morning #IE

These two guys seem to have all of CA covered, but what's Pierre Ingram been up to?
DALLAS, TX here we go !!!!

That covers our coaches, now let's check out some of the players they've been offering recently.
Dion Ray, QB (dual threat), Harvey (La.)
Ray is a very intriguing player. He's garnered mostly small school attention, but several larger schools--all of which favor a more spread attack on offense--have also offered him, including us. This is the second dual threat QB we've offered and started to recruit heavily. Evidently, a running quarterback is something Dykes desires and hopes to build around in the future.
#Cal offers 2015 #LouisianaLafayette commit QB Dion Ray (Helen Cox HS, LA) @__drayyyy @VarsityPreps @SouthRecruit1 #GoBears

Just heard I received an offer from Cal ! #goldenbears
— D-Ray (@__drayyyy) May 12, 2014
And here are his Hudl Highlights.
Note that Ray is currently listed as having committed to ULL, but all sources seem to say that this is hardly a hard commit. Look for him to open things back up again as more and more large schools start offering.
Harper Sherman, OL, Westminster (BC.)
Sherman is perhaps the first foreign player I recall Cal offering (I'm sure it's happened before though). Not much news on this recruit so far so we'll have to keep things updated as we progress.
Just got off the phone with Canadian offensive lineman @HarperSherman, who fills us in on his #Cal offer ($) https://t.co/oo8ErJvQCn

Interestingly enough, Sherman is not the only Canadian player we're after this year. Neville Gallimore, DL, and from Ontario, has also been offered by us. Although not much information is out on Gallimore in terms of rankings, the fact that he's been offered by a host of top tier schools makes me think that the kid can play.
#Cal has offered Canada Prep Football Academy DL Neville Gallimore @Path2Greatwork joining #UCLA from #Pac12 http://t.co/vICTwLVQtz

Xavier Pegues, DE, Itawamba JUCO (Ms.)
Itawamba (JUCO) DE Xavier Pegues tells me he has a new big offer from the Pac 12. @CalRivals @LetsGoICC

Ulric Jones, DE, Oxford (Al.) JUCO
Butler (KS) CC defensive tackle Ulric Jones has picked up new offers from #USC #Cal and the #Aggies.

And here's some 2016 recruits.
Frank Martin, OL, Mater Dai (Ca.)
2016 Mater Dei OT Frank Martin (@Frank_martin73) says #Cal has offered, first one for the big man.
— Cal Rivals (@CalRivals) May 9, 2014
Also, Fresno's Zeandre Johnson, TE, is getting more and more interest from the Cal recruiting staff. There's some serious speculation that the coaching staff would like him to play DE rather than TE. If that request is true, I believe it's not so much indicative of Zeandre's offensive and defensive strengths, but the team's needs. Simply stated, we're not strong on the defensive line, and at the same time, we don't really use the tight end position in any traditional sort of way (he's basically just another slot receiver out there).
Central East's Zeandae Johnson (@Zeandaej) tells us about his #Cal Spring Game visit + an important week ahead ($) https://t.co/G7AJRVxwam

And last but not least, we've also offered James Lockhart, DE, Ennis (Tx.) Lockhart may very well be one of the best ends, if not overall defensive players in the country. Take a look at his offer list if you don't believe me. ESPN has him as the 113th overall best player in the country right now.
We chat with James Lockhart about his #Cal offer, which came from a DC on a mission: http://t.co/09gxXVLUlj #CalFootball
