Cal Athletics will host a news conference to introduce new men’s basketball coach Cuonzo Martin (pronounced: KAHN-zo) on Tuesday, April 15, beginning at 2:15 p.m. in the Field Club at California Memorial Stadium.

Martin served the past three seasons as head coach at Tennessee, leading the Volunteers to the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16 in March. UT finished with a 24-13 record and he had a 63-41 mark overall with the Vols. Martin previously served as head coach at Missouri State for three years, building a record of 61-41 with win totals of 24 and 26 his final two seasons. In 2010-11, Martin guided Missouri State to the regular-season Missouri Valley Championship and he was named the conference’s Coach of the Year.
As a player, Martin was a first-team All-Big Ten selection in 1995 at Purdue when he averaged 18.4 ppg and sank 91 three-pointers. After a brief NBA career, he served on the staff at his alma mater from 2000-08, first as an assistant coach and his final year as associate head coach.

April 15, 2014 – Pac-12 Networks will televise live both men’s basketball press conferences being held today at Arizona and California to a national audience across all seven networks.
The press conference on the future of the Arizona men’s basketball program is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. PT, while the announcement of new California head men’s basketball coach Cuonzo Martin will follow at 2:15 p.m. PT.
