Woodland Hills (Ca.) Pierce Community College defensive end Jonathan Johnson is one of the many junior college talents that will be part of the California Golden Bears 2014 recruiting class
Johnson is going to be the type of player that figures to give Cal more speed at the defensive end spot after struggling to rush the passer all of last season. Cal seemed to have plenty of defensive end talent last year, but injuries and lack of results have made it clear that stocking up on the front seven will be the biggest priority this season. Johnson will be part of that rebuilding effort and will hopefully be able to get the Bears some more sacks in the near future.
Check out Johnson's sophomore year Hudl highlights here. Here are his rankings.
- 247sports: Three stars, 8th ranked JUCO defensive end
- Rivals: Two stars
- Scout: Three stars
- ESPN: Three stars, 9th ranked JUCO defensive end
Johnson signed a mid-year financial aid agreement early with Cal in order to ensure his early enrollment. You should expect him on the field during spring practice.
ESPN
“Johnson is an athletic prospect who could potentially play DE or OLB at the next level. He displays very good snap anticipation to go along with good first step quickness. Johnson possesses good change of direction and can break down in space to secure a tackle. He has good pass rush ability and flashes the bend to turn the corner and chase down the quarterback."
