Sonny Dykes has his first true Bear Raid style quarterback with the signing of Luke Rubenzer. Rubenzer committed to Cal in June and is all set to be a California Golden Bear.
Rubenzer played high school football at Saguaro High school in Scottsdale, Arizona. Measuring at just around six feet tall and around 185-190 pounds, Rubenzer will enroll at Cal next fall.
Must Reads
Rubenzer picked Cal over a host of schools including Boise State, Navy, San Jose State, and eventually UCLA (who tried to poach him at the eleventh hour). Rubenzer has stayed true throughout the process and will be part of a fall competition that will include Jared Goff and possibly Austin Hinder, but expect Rubenzer to be groomed for beyond the 2014 season when he can fully develop into his body and really challenge Goff for playing time in the future.
Here are Rubenzer’s highlights from Hudl, plus indivdiual performances from this season.
Here are Rubenzer’s rankings:
- 247 Sports: Three stars, 30th best dual-threat quarterback, 21st best recruit in Arizona
- Rivals: Three stars, 13th best dual-threat quarterback, ninth best recruit in Arizona
- Scout: Three stars, 49th best quarterback
- ESPN: Three stars, 41st best dual-threat quarterback, 28th best recruit in Arizona
