Cal isn't done picking up defensive recruits for the spring semester. Diablo Valley College defensive back Antoine Albert has committed to the California Golden Bears. The 6'2, 185 pound Albert is a huge commitment for Cal, as the Bears get one of the best local junior college local talents from the Bay. The story from Bear Insider:
"I'm really happy with my decision," said Albert. "It's great to be able to play in my backyard and Cal's building something I want to be a part of.
"The opportunity to come in and compete to play early is a great opportunity for me. Also, the chance to get a degree at such a great university was hard thing to pass up, too."
You should also check out his story from CBS 5 in the Bay Area. Albert's journey is super inspiring and makes him one of my favorite recruits.
Aside from Cal, Albert was looking at Oregon State closely through the process, but Mike Riley's departure threw a monkey wrench into the proceedings. Iowa State also got some attention from him but it was too late.
Albert will join DeVante Wilson, Derron Brown and Ross Bowers as early enrollees, and should participate in spring practice. Cal is continuing to stack up on secondary talent, with Brown, Evan Rambo and Malik Psalms all part of the defensive back crew that is desperately needed to upgrade our depth short-term.
Here are the rankings and highlights for Albert.
- 247Sports: 82nd best JUCO recruit, 9th best JUCO safety.
