The year was 2008. It was the regular season finale at Memorial Stadium, and Cal was headed for a bowl game. The Washington Huskies were on a collision course with an 0-12 season and coach Tyrone Willingham was on the way out the door. The Bears pummeled the Huskies that December day, 48-7, and Cal running back Jahvid Best had a day for the ages, rushing for school record 311 yards on just 19 carries.
And that was the last time Cal beat Washington.
Yes, it has been six long years since the Bears defeated the Huskies. Granted, it is not a drought on the scale of the one that saw Cal go winless against Washington between 1976 and 2002. But it is frustrating nonetheless, especially when considering that the Bears have had winnable games against the Huskies nearly every year since 2008.
Today, Cal enters its game against Washington with high hopes of breaking the Huskies' five-game winning streak against the Bears. Cal is 4-1 (2-1 Pac-12) and coming off an epic 60-59 escape at Washington State last week. Beating Washington won't be easy, however, as the Huskies (4-1, 0-1 Pac-12) are coming off a bye week and seeking to get the bitter taste of their loss to Stanford two weeks ago out of their mouths.
This is your pregame thread to discuss today's game. As always, we will have a gamethread for you. Watch for the link to the first quarter thread as the 3:00 PM Pacific Time kickoff draws near.
