Golden Nuggets: Behind Jordan Mathews' 32 points, Cal wins its 12th straight against Oregon

Jordan Mathews' career game helps drive the Bears to their 12th consecutive win over the Ducks.

I think it's time we reclaim Addicted to Quack as CGB North. Cal continues its dominance over Oregon on the hardwood as the Bears won their 12th straight against the Ducks. Despite the absence of Jabari Bird and Ricky Kreklow, Cal went into Eugene undaunted by the Ducks and their #17 ranking. Jordan Mathews had a career night in Matthew Knight Jordan Mathews Arena.

The Golden Bears beat the No. 17 Ducks for the 12th straight time Thursday night, winning 96-83 in front of 8,415 fans at Matthew Knight Arena behind a career-best 32 points from freshman Jordan Mathews.

Cal (11-4, 2-0 in Pac-12) won its second straight conference road game and will try to make it three in a row Saturday at Oregon State.

Still playing without two of their top seven players, the Bears played a superb offensive game against one of the nation's most explosive teams. Oregon (13-2, 1-2) lost its second straight game, after a 100-91 defeat at Colorado last weekend.

Senior point guard Justin Cobbs, fighting leg cramps in the second half, had 20 points and 11 assists. Richard Solomon added 16 points and nine rebounds, and Tyrone Wallace scored 14 points and had five steals.

Mathews was terrific, making 10 of his 14 shots from the field and all nine free throws to eclipse his previous best of 22 points.

Joseph Young scored 29 points for the Ducks, who have not beaten the Bears since Mike Montgomery became coach for the 2008-09 season.

Everything is going Cal's way this week, even Jeopardy! is hopping on the Cal bandwagon!
