In what could be billed as a rebuilding year with lower expectation, Cal Volleyball opened up the season with a pair of dominant home wins over Nevada and New Mexico State. The return of Michelle Neumayr from missing the past two seasons with ACL injuries was not just a great story, but also gave the Bears a big weapon along side Adrienne Gehan.

Gehan is doing a blog on this year, with the first entry about the team's appearance at the Cal Football opener against Northwestern.

More about this tournament from

The Cal women’s volleyball team hits the road for the first time this season to play in the Bluejay Invitational at Creighton University, a tournament that features three teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Along with the Bears, host Creighton and Northern Colorado also qualified for the postseason in 2012. Both teams are 2-0 so far this season. South Florida, meanwhile, has won three of its first four matches. The Bears are coming off an impressive performance in the Cal Molten Classic last weekend, in which they didn’t drop a set and hit .400 for the weekend. Senior outside hitter Adrienne Gehan was named tournament MVP after averaging 4.33 kills per set at a .477 hitting percentage.
