Cal began their bye week with a day off on Monday, which gave the team some time to get treatment for injuries and work on academics. With Monday open, Coach Sonny Dykes took the opportunity to throw out the first pitch at the A's game on Monday night:

The Golden Bears reconvened for practice on Tuesday. The big news out of practice that day - Matt Cochran will be out for a month as he recovers from surgery to repair a high ankle sprain:

Brennan Scarlett's status remains uncertain as well:

Mike Barton's injury status is more positive; he is probable for the Oregon game:

Additional injury updates, per Hunter Hewitt's Cal Bears Blog:
- LB Nick Forbes (back) is cleared to play, but according to Dykes, he needs to work his way back up the depth chart
- S Michael Lowe (ankle) was back at practice and worked with the first team.
- S Alex Logan (head) did not practice, but Dykes expects him to be back soon.- DT Mustafa Jalil (knee) and DE Brennan Scarlett (hand) remain out indefinitely.
- DE Sione Sina, who has been out since camp, underwent ACL surgery and will be out for the season. He will redshirt and have two years of eligibility remaining.
Hewitt also did a feature story on Jared Goff:
Three games into the season, Cal's freshman quarterback has thrown for 1,306 yards. If he stays at his current pace, Goff will top [Brett] Hundley's total in nine games and will reach 5,224 passing yards by the end of the season - sixth all-time among FBS quarterbacks. A bowl game would give him a chance to add even more.

Before Thursday's practice, Coach Dykes held a live chat on Faraudo's BearTalk blog. Media-savvy WR Bryce Treggs held a live chat as well - via Twitter, by taking over @CalFootball for slightly under an hour:
