Ohio State Blisters Cal, 52-34: Post-Game Open Thread and Report Card

New, 352 comments

Ohio State's offense punched Cal early and often. The Bear Raid tried its best to keep up, but the early deficit was too much to overcome. Report card inside!

Giving up more than 50 points is never good. Never. Unfortunately, that is what the Bears did today. Ohio State scored early and often on the way to a 52-34 victory over Cal at Memorial Stadium.

Cal did its best to stay in the game after falling behind 21-0 only six minutes into the game. A somewhat fluky 61-yard touchdown pass from Jared Goff to James Grisom ignited the Bears, who managed to pull to within 24-14 after one quarter. Ohio State, however, seized control of the game with a 21-point third quarter, taking a commanding 52-27 lead into the fourth quarter. To its credit, Cal kept fighting but the Buckeyes' early onslaught and relentless offensive attack behind backup quarterback Kenny Guiton proved to be too much for the Bears to overcome.

One bright spot: Goff became the first Cal quarterback since Aaron Rodgers to pass for more than 300 yards in three consecutive games. Goff completed 31 of 53 passes for 373 yards, 3 TD, and 1 INT.
