Fall Camp Day 1 - let's get the #BearRaid conversation started!

Greg Bartram-US PRESSWIRE

Time: 5:00pm - 7:30pm

The 2013 California Golden Bears open Fall Camp today. The team reported to camp on Sunday, and Coach Sonny Dykes began the first team meeting by showing a clip of the Play:

"I thought that was a great way to start off camp," Dykes said. "I want to make sure our players are aware of it, certainly most of them are. We wanted our young guys to understand part of our history and appreciate and understand the traditions that Cal has.

"The two points of emphasis of showing that were how important it was for our players to never give up and to do a good job of executing. I want them to develop that attitude where they're never going to give up, and develop the mental toughness that goes along with that. The second [point of emphasis] was the execution on that play, how well it was executed and practiced. They were able to pull it off because guys did their job even in the direst of circumstances."

[F]reshman running back Khalfani Muhammad was inspired by the moment itself since he said he still has a lot to learn about the history of Cal football.

"That was a phenomenal play," Muhammad said. "I actually haven't seen it that much. I'm kind of new to everything about Cal, but Coach Dykes introduced it to us and elaborated it pretty well. He's getting us ready to go for this year."

After months of no football, we'll get a first glimpse at answering questions such as: How will the Bear Raid and the new defense look, after a summer full of intense S&C and player-organized workout sessions? Which young guys will step up and lock down starting spots or contributing roles? And who will be our starting QB?

Follow along with Nam, Avi, and others, who will be covering practice from the stands. Join the conversation in the comments below - especially if you're able to attend practice! We're ready for #BearRaid13 - GO BEARS!!!
