Cal Football Recruiting Notes: August Overview

New, comments

After a solid month of recruiting, the Bears are heading into the season with a strong head of steam. Let's take an overview of how the recruiting season has gone so far.

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Spor

2014 Recruiting Class: 10 recruits overall. Although that number is a bit small, it's still encouraging that we're only in August and this is of course coming off of a dismal season.

National Ranking according to 247 Sports: 50

Conference Rating according to 247 Sports: 5

QB: 1/1, RB: 2, WR: 1, TE: 0, OL: 1

QB: Luke Rubenzer

RB: Tre Watson, Vic Enwere

WR: Jalen Harvey

OL: Michael Trani

DL: 1, LB: 1, DB: 3

DL: Isadore Outing

LB: Devante Downs

DB: Koa Farmer, Quentin Tartabull, Jaleel Wadood

2014 Wish List: 247 Commitment Prediction

Joe Mixon, RB: 50% USC, 30% OU, 15% Cal

Brandon Lee, LB: 100% Louisville

Damien Mama, DL: 89% USC, 11% Alabama

Adarius Pickett: CB: 100% USC

The biggest news of the summer may be Joe Mixon's comments last week about Cal being one of his frontrunners. Additionally, he recently mentioned he would be cancelling a visit to Texas A&M and replace it with an official to Cal. This is highly encouraging, no two ways about it.

Rivals just recently also bumped Mixon's stock up, naming him the no. 1 all purpose back in the country.

One on one Scout interview with the man.

Finally it appears like Mixon has been making his face known at several Cal Bears practices and scrimmages, another very encouraging sign.

All in all, great news here. I'd say we are a healthy frontrunner. Now the key is to be patient, because there won't likely be any firm, concrete news until at least after football season.

This last week we had the big time Devante Downs pick up. He'll be an instrumental factor in solidification of this class. The utility player could play anything from FB, RB, to LB. Big time pick up.

As I predicted, Luke Rubenzer's recruitment stock has also recently risen.

Look for that continue to rise as more and more people discover what a gamer he is. I'm confident he stays committed even with more suitors knocking though.

4 star Fresno WR (Central East), Michiah Quick, rated as the 43 overall player in the country according to ESPN, will be taking an unofficial to Cal in mid September.

Linebacker Brandon Lee (Indianapolis) will be taking an official visit during the Northwestern game.

Drew Clarkson, Center from Camas, Washington, has not decided yet who is in his top, but has decided to take a visit to Cal for the Ohio State game.

Florida wideout Trevon Lee will also be visiting for the tOSU game.

Jeremy Winchester, Texas CB, will also be there.

Junipero Serra Safety Glen Ihenacho has recently named Cal in his top 7.

2015 recruit, 4.2 GPA carrying Tristen Hoge, top linemen recruit from Idaho, just recently picked up a Cal offer.

2015 Foothill CB (Pleasanton) Isaiah Langley also just recently received an offer.

ESPN top 36th rising junior Jacob Daniel also just took a visit to Cal and reportedly loved it.

ESPN 120th rising junior Zach Okun showing Cal some love.

Like Rubenzer, Cal commit Jaleel Wadood is also seeing his stock rise. Rivals put him up in the top 250.

ESPN 92nd rising junior Keisean Lucier-South just picked up a Cal offer.

Cal RB commit Vic Enwere received Houston first team honors.

270th ESPN rising junior Trent Irwin also just his Cal offer.

Going way into the future, 2016 San Ramon Valley QB Kevin Davidson received some recruiting advice from our very own Luke Rubenzer.
