Gamethread: Reshanda Gray In World University Finals

What, you thought we wouldn't have open threads for current Cal athletes in the depths of the off-season? YOU THOUGHT WRONG!

Enemies in March, teammates in July. I suppose Reshanda is too nice to rub in Cal's win over LSU, right?

In case you weren't already aware, Reshanda Gray was named as a member of Team USA for the World University Games, and the Americans have advanced all the way to the finals, where they will face hosts Russia.

To be honest, I'm kind of annoyed with the lack of playing time for Reshanda. She's only getting 8 minutes/game (least on the team) and only got 1 minute in USA's come-from-behind nail-biter win over Australia. This is partly because head coach Sherri Coale favors a four guard lineup, frequently playing Kelenna Mosqueda-Lewis at the four. But Reshanda has also been firmly behind USC's Cassie Harberts and LSU's Theresa Plaisance in Coale's rotation.

But Reshanda hasn't let her limited playing time bother her game. In 40 total minutes of playing time (i.e., one game) she's 11-13 from the field with 24 points and 11 rebounds. That's a pretty friggin' good game.

I have no idea if Reshanda will get significant minutes this morning. If the USA can get out to an early lead, that would probably help, but Russia has breezed into the finals and should have a loud, partisan crowd behind them. At the very least, you can root for Reshanda to head back to Berkeley which a nice, shiny gold medal around her neck. Gold. What a great color.
