National Championship Game

If you are a long suffering Cal fan like I am, you are still reeling from last night's Cal loss to Louisville in the Women's Final Four. Nearly a day has gone by and it still hurts. For me, next to a football national championship, Rose Bowl, or men's basketball national championship, a women's basketball national championship is next on my order of dream sports accomplishments for Cal. But, alas, we couldn't quite get to Tuesday night. The dream season came to a bitter end.

But if you are able to shake off the daze of a missed golden opportunity, you might want to take note of the history that might be made in this year's NCAA basketball tournaments. The University of Louisville has a chance to become only the second NCAA Division I school to win men's and women's basketball national championships in the same season (Connecticut in 2004 was the other).

Tonight is the first step in that quest for Louisville. The men's team plays for the national title against Michigan. Louisville seeks its third national championship (and first since 1986) while Coach Rick Pitino tries to win his second national title as a coach (Kentucky 1996). Michigan stands in the way, seeking its second national championship (1989).

This is your open thread for the game. Talk about it all here as you watch.
