Cal Softball at UCLA Saturday Open Thread

After two extra inning losses, the Bears are hoping to avoid being swept by the otherwise underachieving UCLA squad. If the Bears hope to repeat as Pac-12 Champs, they need to start playing more consistently.

No.8/9 Cal Softball (31-8, 6-5) vs. No.19/21 UCLA Bruins (28-13, 5-9)

With back to back 9th inning (which are extra innings in softball that only go to 7) walk-off wins to the Bruins, the Bears are hoping to avoid being swept down in LA, although a second consecutive conference series loss is already assured after dropping 2 of 3 to Oregon last weekend at home.

On Friday night, the Bears blew an early 4-0 lead (including an one run lead in the 7th) to eventually lose 5-4 in the 9th. On Saturday night, the Bears trailed 2-0 until senior catcher Lindsey Ziegenhirt tied things up with a two run bomb, her 15th of the season to lead the team. Senior ace got some rest and didn't come in until the 5th, but still ended up throwing 4.2 innings. Expect to see more Jolene Henderson on Sunday and remember to vote for Jolene daily in the Senior CLASS Award here. Jo has a well deserved nice lead for the moment but we need to keep this up until mid-May.

GO BEARS!
