And there goes another -- with Freddie Tagaloa, Johnny Ragin and Zach Kline already confirmed as transfers, the Bears will lose a fourth player this offseason in freshman linebacker Chad Whitener. Grant Marek of Rivals has the following.
Add linebacker Chad Whitener's name to the list of those interested in a post-one-win exodus. According to several sources, the true freshman middle linebacker is pursuing a transfer to Oklahoma State.
A Cal rep had no comment regarding the transfer on Monday morning.
It is likely that Whitener will follow the course of other transfers--either enroll at a JC for a year before signing with a new team or just walk straight onto the team and get their scholarship in a year's time.
While there is still starting-quality talent for next season at linebacker between Jalen Jefferson, Hardy Nickerson, Michael Barton and returning Nathan Broussard, depth is beginning to get dangerously sparse at this position group. Two of three freshmen linebackers have left, leaving Edward Tandy as the lone remaining recruit. Whitener's loss hurts now, but it could hurt even worse in the near future -- there could still be two more losses here in Khairi Fortt, who could be NFL bound, and Nick Forbes, whose health remains very much up in the air.
Good luck, Chad! Stay golden and Go Bears.
