Cal football recruiting commit: Jonathan Johnson, Pierce College defensive end

And this one makes four.

Scott Olmos-USA TODAY Sports

Hot off the presses, and in a bit of a surprise, the Golden Bears have snagged a fourth JUCO player for the 2014 classin Pierce College defensive end Jonathan Johnson, who flipped from Arizona State on signing day.

With Brennan Scarlett MIA all of last season and Chris McCain never quite working out, Cal played Kyle Kragen and Dan Camporeale as their usual starters, never getting the kind of production that we hoped for. Perhaps more JUCO reinforcement can help.

There's more information about Johnson -- who had offers from Illinois and Arizona State -- here in an article by Rivals' Grant Marek. [I believe, and I could be wrong about this, that Johnson will be available for spring ball, like Atoe, Kelly and Davis.]

Also, in potentially related news, ASU picked up a JUCO commit of their own just yesterday.

Welcome to Cal, Jonathan!

The rankings

Rivals: 2 star

ESPN: 3 star [77], 8th ranked JUCO defensive end

CGB will run some thoughts on Johnson later this week.
