Why should you care?

Bears are looking to stay in top 25 with a weekend split against the LA schools. After playing USC tough yet again, the Bears came out on the wrong end of the result against the Trojans. The weekend can be remedied if the Bears can beat UCLA Bruins for another tough Pac-12 weekend split. UCLA fell to Stanfurd in 4 sets on Friday night. In their earlier matchup down in Westwood, Bears beat UCLA in straight sets.

Who to watch?

Freshman libero Maddy Kerr was named the Freshman of the Week by the conference, thanks to her Cal record tying 33 digs in 5 sets against Oregon last Friday. Watch her interview with Pac-12.com, below, where she talked about her team and her famous father: 5x NBA Champ Steve Kerr.

Middle blocker Lara Vukasovic really stood out against the Oregon schools last week, hitting nearly 0.500 for both matches. Senior Outside hitter Adrienne Gehan reached the 1000 kill mark for her Cal career, only the 15th player to get there.

What is at stake?

Bears are trying to stay above 0.500 in the tough Pac-12 play. A win over UCLA today would give the Bears another split in conference play and probably another week in the top 25. All these would increase the odds of the Bears to host the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament.
