- For a glimpse of what has been happening with Cal Olympic Sports in the past week, check out my weekly recap here.
Yep, UCLA are 0-3 to start the conference. Between being beat by cross town rival USC to open the year, the Bruins lost a 5 setter to Colorado in Colorado. Unlike the Bears' schedule making this match their first of the week, the Bruins are actually playing their second of this week after being dominated in three sets by Furd on Wednesday night. This is either a great time or a bad time catch the Bruins.
After a shaky 3 match slide where their fundamentals betrayed them, the Bears appear to be back to form with the start of the conference play (even with a close 4 set loss to Furd at home). With the solid passing led by freshman libero Maddy Kerr, setter Joan Caloiaro is able to lead a balanced Cal offense that is not just Senior Adrienne Gehan.
UCLA's offense is run through freshman Jordan Robbins. Against Furd on Wednesday night, they never got on track and hit below 0.100 in the final two sets. National Champions two years ago, the Bruins still have seniors Kelly Reeves and Mariana Aquino who have the track record of being able to play at a very high level. It would be nice if they don't find their form for another week.
