CGB Pac-12 Week 9 Power Rankings

Oregon and Stanford are challenged (well, Oregon was challenged for a half or so), but both survive. Oh, and Cal still sucks. :(

Scott Olmos-USA TODAY Sports

1. Oregon (holding steady)

Berkelium97: Move along. Nothing to see here.

Sam Fielder: Another game, another win, they still look good.

atomsareenough: Oregon is Oregon. We all knew they were going to blow out the Bruins in the second half, right?

norcalnick: It's probably wise to step back and consider how much we all shrug when Oregon destroys a highly ranked team despite the transition to a new coaching staff.

2. Stanford (holding steady)

Berkelium97: Another game in which they do just enough to win.

atomsareenough: The Cardinal sneak by Oregon State to remain at #2. I don't think Hogan is really all that good, but he's good enough, and the rest of the Stanford team is solid.

Sam Fielder: They just keep winning. Unfortunately...

norcalnick: On the one hand, they easily handled ASU and UCLA. On the other hand, they lost to Utah and easily could have (should have?) lost to Oregon State and Washington. Their grip on 2nd place is more tenuous than it first appears.

3. Arizona State (holding steady)

Sam Fielder: The best of the rest given UCLA's recent losses.

atomsareenough: Bye week for the Sun Devils. Thanks to the vagaries of scheduling, they get to miss Oregon during the regular season this year, and that gives them the inside track to win the Pac-12 South. They'll still need to beat UCLA on November 23rd, but they control their own destiny at this point.

4. UCLA (holding steady)

Sam Fielder: Back to back tough games but this is a good team.

norcalnick: Still the 3rd best team in the conference, losses to Stanford and Oregon be damned.

atomsareenough: The freshmen on the o-line look promising. Everyone gets blown out by the Ducks. The Bruins only slip to #4.

Berkelium97: It's tempting to say they played well at Oregon due to the 14-14 halftime score. But that was a bad, bad performance by the Bruins. I won't punish them too much, since that happens to everyone against the Ducks.

5. Washington (up one spot)

Berkelium97: An impressive blowout victory...but that happens to everyone against Cal this year.

norcalnick: You don't get much credit for beating Cal these days.

Sam Fielder: Cal makes everyone look amazing.

atomsareenough: The Huskies easily dispatch an anemic Cal team as expected. Not much to see here. Keith Price's thumb seems to be okay. Washington moves up to #5.

6. Oregon State (down one spot)

Sam Fielder: the resurgence was halted a bit this week but they're still decent.

atomsareenough: The Beavers put up a good fight against Stanford but ultimately demonstrate the risks of being too one-dimensional.

norcalnick: The Beavers had their 7th straight win available for the taking. I won't punish them too much but they need a win over a team better than Utah eventually.

Berkelium97: I bet they are kicking themselves for the way they ended both halves. This is still looking like an upper echelon Pac-12 team, however.

7. USC (up three spots)

Sam Fielder: Made a decent Utah team look pedestrian. Of course they'll be on the upswing when we get them.

Berkelium97: Clancy's D continues to win games for the Trojans.

atomsareenough: 4 field goals and a TD are more then plenty when your defense plays that well. USC moves up to #7.

norcalnick: If they beat Oregon State on Friday they could be outside contenders for the South. But injuries mean that this is probably the high water mark of the USC season.

8. Arizona (holding steady)

Sam Fielder: Blew out a bad team, which is what you should do.

norcalnick: You don't get much credit for beating Colorado these days.

atomsareenough: The Wildcats blow out woeful Colorado. They stay at #8.

Berkelium97: My nightmare is coming true--B.J. Denker figured out how to pass the ball.

9. Washington State (holding steady)

Sam Fielder: Air Raid takes a week off...

atomsareenough: After two bad beatdowns in a row, a third may be coming when the Cougs meet Arizona State this week. Dates with Arizona and Utah still give them an opportunity to become bowl eligible before the Apple Cup, though.

10. Utah (down three spots)

Sam Fielder: Frisky, but inconsistent.

Berkelium97: Bowl eligibility is not looking nearly as certain as it did two weeks ago.

atomsareenough: What a weird season the Utes are having. I'd still trade it with Cal's in a heartbeat though. Anyway, they slip to #10 after getting hammered by USC. Hopefully Travis Wilson heals up quickly.

norcalnick: Utah with a healthy Travis Wilson isn't the 9th worst team in the conference. But he is hurt, and that reality is costing Utah games. They'll get no sympathy from Cal fans on that account.

11. Colorado (holding steady)

Sam Fielder: Got hammered.

atomsareenough: At least we can be sure that the Buffs are still bad too.

Berkelium97: I thought they had a chance at winning Saturday's game. It turns out his team is much worse than I thought.

12. California (holding steady)

Berkelium97: Same script. Different week.

Sam Fielder: Same song and dance. This team is simply not good.

atomsareenough: I was pretty sure we were better than Colorado. Now I'm not at all certain. Sigh.

It's worth noting that this week, norcalnick voted Cal and Colorado in a tie for last place. Can't say I disagree.

11. Colorado Golden Bears - norcalnick: Who is who?

12. Cal Buffaloes - norcalnick: I don't know.
