In a tight Pac-12 fight for the conference title in Women's Soccer, the undefeated through 13 matches Cal squad will look to get the lead and leapfrog the nationally 2nd ranked UCLA Bruins. Since the teams only get to play each other once per season, Bears need to take advantage of having the home field against the top contender in UCLA, who are also looking to usurp Stanfurd (whose 40+ conference unbeaten streak has been snapped this year) at the top of the conference.
Earlier this week, UCLA got a golden goal in the 2nd OT to down Stanfurd in Palo Alto. Meanwhile in Berkeley, the Golden Bears got an early lead on a goal by senior Rachel Mercik but gave up the equalizer in the 2nd half (plus way too many quality chances to the Women of Troy of USC) to end up with only a draw. A better effort out of the Golden Bears is required for the Bears to end the day in 1st place of the tough Pac-12 Conference.

Offensively, the Bears are led by the 18 points (8 goals, 2 assists) of striker Ifeoma Onumonu. A successful last week has catapulted senior Kaitlyn Fitzpatrick into second place on the team with 16 points (6 goals, 4 assists). Also with more than 10 points are Sam Witteman (6 goals and 3 assists for 15 points) and Rachel Mercik (5 goals, 2 assists for 12 points). Three other Bears have tallied a goal this year.
The lone loss for UCLA, the preseason favorite to win the conference, came as a 1-0 loss to the defending NCAA champs in North Carolina. While the Bears have tallied draws in conference play with Utah and USC, the UCLA Bruins has a draw against the Washington Huskies. Darien Jenkins is the Bruins' leading goal scorers. The Bruin keeper Katelyn Rowland already has 7 shutouts in 13 matches.
Either way, this should be a great battle with both heavy conference and national implications.
