Golden Recruiting Wire: Cal Football Has Their Big Official Visit Weekend

Cal hosted multiple commits/targets over the weekend. Hopefully this weekend's recruiting jamboree was a difference maker in getting some of our more on the fence prospects to make the right decision come NSD.

Ezra Shaw

As always, check out our Golden Recruiting Board (either as a full spreadsheet when clicking here or as an embedded spreadsheet below)!

Ray Davison, Defensive End from Crespi, committed yesterday after he was in Berkeley for his official visit. There was some initial speculation that he committed a week ago, but Davison denied the rumors and said he would commit after his visit. If you remember, Davison is a Northwestern decommit.

Marcus Manley, Defensive Lineman from SMCC committed yesterday after his official visit this weekend. Manley is an under the radar recruit who the coaching staff is very high on.

Jacobi Hunter, Defensive Tackle from Cyprus Falls High School (Houston, Texas) committed yesterday. A former Indiana commit, he was also in Berkeley with the rest of the recruits this weekend. Despite not being very tall, Hunter is a stout, compact player, who could be a great run stopper at the next level. He already is pretty big, at 6'2 285, and will be able to add a lot of muscle on that frame once he is on a college workout schedule. Congrats Jacobi!

Victor Egu may have become the biggest surprise of this recruiting season. A Cal commit, and offers on the table from Oregon, ASU, Nebraska, Notre Dame, and many others, Egu has made the switch to the Ivy League, and will be attending Yale.

I really did not see this coming at all. Although our linebacking corps will be sturdy next season, there is no denying that Egu was a very promising prospect. I can't blame a kid for wanting to pursue a high level of academics, and I am happy that he at least didn't go somewhere else in the PAC 12. Best of luck to you, Victor.

Patrick Enewally, CB from Cerritos California, took an official to Cal this weekend. Enewally is a talented, big body corner, standing at 6'2, 195. Enewally said that it was originally between UCLA and Washington, but he decided that he wouldn't make his commitment until he had checked out Berkeley. Hopefully his OV put us in his final 3.

Most of the commits who came to Cal this weekend seemed to gain some further reassurance in their decision. Lots of positive tweets were coming from these guys all weekend. That list included Chad Whitener, Erik Bunte, Darius Allensworth and Jared Goff. Goff is already enrolled as a student at Cal.

Darius Allensworth and Cameron Hunt seem to be set on making a final decision on NSD, with Allensworth being the more likely to stay of the two.

Washington State is going after Allensworth right now too. Apparently Mike Leach was making an in-home visit on Sunday night.

Cameron Hunt hasn't given any word as to where he is leaning at this point. It seems like he had a good time in Berkeley this weekend, but then again he seemed to immensely enjoy his last several visits. Ohio State and Oregon both really want him.

He has another official scheduled for Ohio State on February 2nd. Hunt's recruitment is definitely long from over. Keep those fingers crossed.

Takkarist McKinley, DE from John F. Kennedy High School was also in Berkeley this weekend. McKinley is also a commit of ours, but there are rumors that McKinley is also now considering Washington State. He visited WSU on the 18th, and Mike Leach will be making an in-home visit to his home sometime today. I have to admit that I am also pretty worried about this situation. Whatever school he's coaching at, Mike Leach doing an in-home visit just days before signing day is always a scary thing.

Regardless, our staff seems very excited about the new incoming class as a whole. Go Bears!
