Cal Football Recruiting Commit: DT Jacobi Hunter

Defensive tackle Jacobi Hunter from Houston, Texas has made his commitment to the California Golden Bears.

Cal needed defensive linemen in their class, particularly on the interior, and they're finding them. Jacobi Hunter is the latest commitment for the California Golden Bears, and joins Tony Mekari as our second defensive tackle commitment. Brandon Chatmon of ESPN reports ($).

Buoyed by its academics, beautiful landscape and the opportunity to join a program that could be on the rise, California made a major impression on a three-star defensive tackle this weekend. So much so he decided to end his recruitment and pledge to the Golden Bears.

Hailing from Houston Cypress Falls, Hunter was originally committed to Indiana back in the summer, but started showing interest in Cal and the Hoosiers ended up pulling his scholarship offer. Hunter took his official visit up to Cal this weekend and saw enough to make the call.

Here's a free commitment story from Scout.

"I had options," Hunter said. "Luckily, I was blessed with a lot of interest in me, even coming up to the last weeks, so I didn’t sweat it. If they felt that way, then that speaks to them, and I didn’t think anything of it. I just worried about what I was going to do."

Hunter supposedly comes in at around 6-0/6-1, weighing in at about 285 pounds. You have to figure at some point he'll be ready to plug the interior and be part of the solution inside to holding opposing offenses down. Hunter was the defensive MVP of the CFISD District in the Houston area, a very competitive hotbed of Texas football.

Rivals: Two stars

ESPN: Three stars, 71st best defensive tackle, 158th best recruit in Texas

247Sports: Three stars, 68th best defensive tackle, 187th best recruit in Texas

Scout: Two stars, 92nd best defensive tackle

Here is a video highlight reel of Hunter if you want to see him on tape. However, I figure you'd be more interested in this. I cannot confirm whether this is Jacobi or not, but if it is this makes him my favorite recruit of the last billion years.

Welcome to Cal, Jacobi! Go Bears!
