Women's 800 meter:

Alysia Johnson Montano (famous for wearing a giant flower on her head when racing, find out why here) won the 800 meter race in the US trial and posted a time of 2 minute and 0.47 seconds, not only the best time in her heat (top two qualifies, plus the next few top overall times) but also the best time overall. Watch the replay of her race here.

What's Next: The 800 meter semifinal is schedule for tomorrow Thursday at 11:30 AM PT (around the same time as the Gold medal match of Women's Soccer). The final, if Alysia can make it there, would be on Saturday at 12:00 PM PT.

Men's Water Polo:

Knockout round starts with both Serbia (winner of Group B) and USA (4th place in Group B) both started their quarterfinal round.

Serbia 11 - Australia 8: Despite being the favorite of winning the Gold medal and not just this match, Serbia found themselves down by as much as 3 goals multiple time (and at the half). Clearly, they stormed back to advance to the semifinal. Current Cal sophomore Aleksa Saponjic (Serbia) recorded 20 seconds of pool time in this match. Watch the replay of this match here.

What's Next: Serbia will next face Italy in the semifinal round on Friday, August 10th at 12:40 AM PT.

Croatia 8 - USA 2: After dropping the last two matches of group play, USA attempted to bounce back against the undefeated Croatia team (winner of Group A). Croatia was dominant from early on and prevented Team USA from mounting any kind of offensive rhythm. Cal alum John Mann (USA) couldn't score on his shot attempt. Replay of this match is available here.

What's Next: USA will play Spain in the consolation bracket. The match is scheduled for 6:30 AM PT on Friday, August 10th.

No new medals for Cal today, but there will be plenty of excitement tomorrow with both of the Gold medal matches for Women Soccer (Alex Morgan of USA) and Women Water Polo (Elsie Windes and Heather Petri of USA). Alysia Montano will also attempt to get one step closer to winning a medal in Women's 800 meter.
