Phil Steele continues to preview the upcoming football season. Most recently he put together bowl projections for the Pac-12, which includes a whopping 8 bowl-eligible teams.
Team | Bowl | Opponent |
1. USC | Rose Bowl | Wisconsin |
2. Oregon | Orange Bowl | South Florida |
3. Stanford | Alamar Bowl | West Virginia |
4. UCLA | Holiday Bowl | Kansas State |
5. Oregon State | Sun Bowl | NC State |
6. Utah | Maaco Bowl | Boise State |
7. Cal | Fight Hunger Bowl | Navy |
8. Washington | New Mexico Bowl | Army |
Before you get too worried about Cal finishing in the bottom half of the conference, remember that Phil has South Florida as a BCS at large and Florida State against Oklahoma in the BCS title game. Take these predictions with a planetoid of salt. More links after the jump.
Calympics
Football
- The Cal ATO was able to secure an additional 1,000 tickets for the Ohio State game. This brings the university's allotment up to 2,200.
- Ohio State players continue to drop like flies. Middle linebacker Storm Klein (how's that for a name?) was arraigned on misdemeanor charges of domestic violence and assault. The university has not yet dealt with his punishment, so his status for the Cal game remains to be seen.
Softball
- Valerie Arioto helped propel the US national team to first place (6-0) at the World Cup of Softball. Britt Vonk and the Netherlands finished fourth. In their lone head-to-head matchup, Val and the U.S. topped Holland 2-1.
- For the second year in the row the NCFA named Cal as the best staff in the Pacific region.
