Cal earned a stress free 9-4 win yesterday courtesy of the long ball. Two blasts from Chad Bunting and a solo shot from Andrew Knapp would have been enough, but the Bears managed another 14 hits in the offensive onslaught. That was plenty for Michael Theofanopoulos, who flirted with disaster throughout but still managed to get through 5 and 1/3 innings with minimal damage despite allowing 13 baserunners. The bullpen was a bit more stingy, particularly Logan Scott, who worked three perfect innings for the unconventional save.

Getting the win yesterday was big because it means Cal is set up with ace Matt Flemer on the mound. He'll take his 2.15 ERA into the game against Utah's awesomely named Brock Duke, who happens to be Utah's ace as well. Duke doesn't have Flemer's 5 to 1 K:BB ratio, but he's still carrying a solid 3.23 ERA into this afternoon's game.

Yesterday's win jumped Cal from last all the way to 8th in the Pac . . . 11? I guess? Even better, the Bears are just one game out of 5th place. Keep making up ground, Bears!
