Number one in the nation. Has a nice ring to it. Beating the Furd on the Farm to get there is even better.

Cal 9, Furd 0: Domo Arioto.

Britt Vonk got an infield hit in the first inning, Valerie brought her home on a two run homer. Vonk got on base in the fourth on a fielder's choice, then Valerie brought her home again. Breana Kostreba managed to go deep with a two run homer of her own, and Ashley Decker and Danielle Henderson went yard as well.

Jolene Henderson needed only 87 pitches to polish off the Furd.

Cal 4, Furd 3: First of a doubleheader after Saturday's contest was postponed. Cal got the first run from Jamia Reid (who got on with an infield hit) aboard on a throwing error, then Kostreba went deep once again with a two run home run. Vonk completed the scoring for Cal with a deep RBI double.

Arioto managed to go five innings before the Cardinal got to her, but in came Jolene to get a five out save, including forcing a pop out with the tying and go-ahead runs on base.

Cal 8, Furd 0: More domination from Jolene, who sprayed a four hitter on 107 pitches (15 1/3 innings, three game appearances, one earned run in three days).

After going scoreless most of the way, the bats got going. Frani Echavarria (walk) and J. Reid (single) got on, and Arioto doubled to give the Bears a 2-0 lead. Danielle Henderson walked in the next inning, and Echavarria put one deep to center to go up 4-0. Arioto and Jace Williams homered, then the Henderson sisters each managed an RBI to close things out.

The Furd are no pushovers. They were a top ten team going into last weekend, and the Bears shut out their rivals twice and squeaked out a close one. The machine is working nicely so far.

Cal 8, Sacramento State 0 (mercy rule in five): Eight runs in the first three innings. Arioto needed only 56 pitches and gave up three hits to earn victory. Arioto, Echavarria, J. Reid and Vonk all put up RBIs.

Up next: #3 Washington. Jace Williams will be happy to see her former team, who will probably be the stiffest conference test they face. If you get a chance, check them out at Levine-Fricke field this weekend. Today at 3 PM, Saturday at 1 PM, Sunday at noon. Cal only has four home series in Pac-12 play, check them out if you can get the chance! This could be one special team.
